Community Prevention Alternatives’s organizer Ms. Martha Flores-Vazquez held the meeting and Meng, Zhaowen, the State Councilor of New York State spoke at the meeting, on behalf of the state government. Community Prevention Alternatives members and Martha’s supporters were present at the meeting. Martha’s firm supporter and friend, Wang, Jun, the chairman of China Democracy Party and Propriety of China Democracy Journal was invited to the meeting. Mr. Wang, Jun also spoke at the meeting. Community Prevention Alternatives’s organizer Martha addressed a speech and welcomed the community of “The Prevention of Domestic Crisis and Anti-human-trafficking”at the meeting. At the meeting, Meng, Zhaowen, on behalf of State Councilor, awarded Martha with the government award certificate to thank her for her contributions on anti-domestic violence and fight against human trafficking.
New York State Councilor Meng, Zhaowen stated the human trafficking problem has been more severe but many people have no idea of it. It is like the domestic violence problem 20 years ago when people didn’t know the definition of “domestic violence”, how to solve the “domestic violence” and how to settle the “domestic violence”. Two weeks ago, the New York House of Representatives passed the legislation of establishing an anti-human trafficking operating team to coordinate among departments in New York State and more importantly with community organizations such as Community Prevention Alternatives. People might have heard of 3P: Prevention, Protection and Prosecution / Punishment, but might not know every year there are about 20,000 people transported to New York. Therefore, New York State Council praised the leadership and efforts of Community Prevention Alternatives.
Ms. Maria Almario, the representative from “Eliminating Human Trafficking Organization” stated that those that are trafficked are modern slaves and are in various ways. The prevailing law states that a victim should be defined by an experienced 3rd party, and cannot be defined by them. Victims are often limited by problems such as languages when they describe for the experts. If this happens, they should seek legal assistance from local authorities.
Mr. Wang, Jun, Chairman of China Democracy Party, Propriety of China Democracy Journal stated that all modern civilized societies oppose domestic violence and fight against human trafficking. All human beings need a peaceful and stable environment and a non-violent family. We should work together to fight against violence and embrace a civilized tomorrow.
