赵君(Zhao,Jun)

It is time to commemorate June 4th students’ demonstrations in 1989 again. It has been 22 years since June 4th massacre in 1989. We have never forgotten about it; people with consciousness have never forgotten about it. In the early morning of June 4th, 1989, at Tian’anmen Square in Beijing, China, the Chinese Communist government repressed this world-known democracy movement with armed military forces and made the June 4th massacre in 1989.

Students and local residents went to demonstrate in the streets, requesting the Chinese government to work against corruption and embezzlement and the reselling of resources by privileged government officials and to carry out political reforms; however, they were run over by tanks and shot by machine guns. There were heavy casualties and the scene was shocking; after the massacre, the Chinese government arrested the students and residents who participated in the democracy movement in 1989. Many participants were sentenced, sent to labor rehabilitation and exiled.

After 22 years, the June 4th massacre has left a pain that cannot be erased; the massacre has become an inevitable historic problem. We have to respect the true history of June 4th accident and be responsible to let all people to comprehensively understand the truth of June 4th event. I personally experienced the democracy movement in 1989 and the June 4th massacre. I witnessed the students and residents who fell in blood at Tian’anmen Square. I have hereby kept the newspaper that reported the democracy movement in 1989 and made these photos open to commemorate this event.

We strongly request the Chinese government to respect history and give the historic truth back; they have to be responsible for repressing the democracy movement in 1989 and the June 4th massacre; they have to revoke the restrictions on internet and allow the freedom of press and speech so that the truth of June 4th massacre in 1989 could be revealed and the victims could rest in peace and the survivors could be comforted.
