Re: Invitation to Speak at July 15th (Friday) Rally and Grand March
Dear Chairman Wang,
Following up our earlier phone conversation, we would like to invite to give a brief remark (3-5 minutes) to our Annual Rally on Friday, July 15th, 12:45pm – 2pm at the Washington Monument. Be a witness to history during our solemn March and Rally of three thousands Falun Gong practitioners and supporters, as we raise awareness of 12-year human rights atrocities committed by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and to support 100 million Chinese awakened to their conscience and quit CCP and its affiliates in the past 6 years.
Falun Gong is a traditional spiritual practice of the Buddha school. It consists of gentle, meditative exercises and a moral philosophy centered on the tenets of “truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance”. Through practicing Falun Gong, it has brought to over 100 million practitioners in China and around the world improved health, inner peace, and a positive outlook on life.
However, as the practice grew more popular, Communist leaders feared that Falun Gong was ideological competition on account of its independence, popularity, and traditional spiritual and cultural contents. On July 20th, 1999, the CCP launched a campaign to eradicate Falun Gong through a demonized propaganda, mass imprisonment, torture, and other forms of coercive “reeducation” that resulted in over 3,400 confirmed deaths under police custody. Over 10,000 were arrested and over 100 tortured to death in the name of 2008 Beijing Olympic. Countless have gone missing, while millions are still lingering in detention centers, labor camps, and psychiatric hospitals, making them the largest group of prisoners of conscience in the world.
Since the persecution began, Falun Gong practitioners have responded to state-sanctioned violence using entirely peaceful means. Inspired by a belief in the power of truth to enliven people’s consciences and drive out hatred and violence, they have sought to educate Chinese citizens on the true nature of their spiritual practice, the persecution, and the wider history of CCP through a book called “Nine Commentaries on Communist Party”.
As a result of these efforts, in late 2004 a non-violent movement began in China to reject the violence and inequity of CCP rule and to disavow ties with CCP and its affiliates (a process called ‘Tuidang’), and to embrace hope for a free, peaceful future. This July, the registered number of participants on the Tuidang website will reach 100 million people.
We invite you to explore the enclosed package for more information about Falun Gong, Tuidang movement, and our July events. We look forward to having you on July 15th.
Sincerely,
Professor Sen Nieh
