China Democracy Party Chairman Jun Wang Attended “18th Vietnam Human Rights Day” held at the U.S. Congress
“18th Vietnam Human Rights Day” was held on May 10, 2012, from 10:30am to 3:30pm, in the U.S. capital Washington Capitol, the following individuals and organizations attended the conference: U.S. congressmen, labor leaders, multi-national human rights organizations, non-government organizations, Vietnamese community representatives throughout the whole United States and part of the Chinese democracy movement organizations. The chairman of China Democracy Party and proprietor of China Democracy Journal Jun Wang was invited to this conference by the host. Leading part of the Party members, Jun Wang not only attended, but also gave a speech in the conference (the content and video were not in this article). The U.S. congressmen and all the guests attending the conference had detailed analysis and discussion on the deteriorating human rights problem in China, Vietnam, Myanmar, other Asian countries and even the whole world. And topics of democracy, rule of law, the freedom of news and religions were also involved.
In May 1994, the U.S. Congress passed Resolution No.168, the bill set May 11 as Vietnam Human Rights Day. And in May 25, 1994, the then U.S. president Bill Clinton signed this Resolution, making it Public Law 103-258. The U.S. Congress designated May 11 as “Vietnam Human Rights Day”, showed the support and encouragement from U.S. government in protecting and promoting the improvement of human rights in Vietnam, as well as the freedom. Today, the U.S. congress held a human rights forum to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the “Vietnam Human Rights Day”.
May 11 is a special day, marking the most outstanding historical stage in promoting human rights in Vietnam. In May 11, 1990, Dr. Dan Nguyen, a Vietnam physician, together with other human rights activists announced nonviolent movement declaration in Vietnam. This declaration called for using peace against oppression; and urged government to respect basic human rights, accepting multi-party policies and allowing a free, fair national election. Dr, Nguyen and other human rights advocates with him, were arrested in succession, convicting of crimes against the State. In 2005, Dr. Nguyen Dan was released, but had been closely monitored by the Vietnamese authorities.
Although the relation between the United States and Vietnam had been normal, the economy and trade had taken a significant step, and economic development hasd brought a positive change in the lives of many Vietnamese, Vietnam’s human rights record still remained the same. The freedom of religion, freedom of speech and freedom of news were under strict restriction, the authorities continued persecution dissidents, human rights activists and religious figures. The international human rights organization report showed that the Vietnamese government continues to violate civil rights, refused to give freedom to religion, and suppressed it all the time. The members of independent religious group were harassed and persecuted by the authorities in Vietnam; some religious leaders were arrested and detained. It became more and more serious. The human rights issue in Vietnam was particular worthy attention from the international society. The reason that U.S. government was greatly concerned about Vietnam’s human rights problem was that Vietnam could enjoy its lasting prosperity.
The chairman of China Democracy Party and Proprietor of China Democracy Journal Jun Wang addressed a speech in the conference. Before the speech, Jun Wang informed the U.S. congressmen, representatives of national human rights and media journalists an important event: For years, the Chinese Communist authorities used despicable means to give Jun Wang death threats over one hundred times. Chairman Jun Wang warned Chinese Communist authorities to stop persecuting him and the China Democracy Party under his leadership. This was the first time that chairman Jun Wang openly condemned the Chinese Communist authorities’ violent actions on him in the hearing on human rights held at the U.S. Congress. This human rights issue produced a strong response among the participants, and aroused the attention and concern from the members of Congress.
Next, Chairman Jun Wang spoke highly of the Vietnamese human rights organizations for their outstanding contributions in promoting the improvement of human rights in Vietnam in his speech, he also praised that Vietnamese human rights organizations took a positive role in promoting the human rights in Asia, particularly in China. Chairman Jun Wang exposed the sufferings of Chinese people brought by the Chinese Communist’s despotism, and condemned the Chinese Communist authoritarians’ persecution to the Chinese Democrats. He cited a few examples of the Chinese Communist authorities’ persecution over CDP members. In June 2002, one of the founders of the China Democracy Party Mr. Bingzhang Wang left the U.S. for Vietnam, but he was kidnapped on his way to Vietnam and sent back to China by China communist special agents. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by China communist court. In February 10, 2012, democrats Mr. Yufu zhu got his third sentence from the Chinese communist government of subverting the state’s political power, and was sentenced to 7-year imprisonment. In March 2012, the 22 year old democrat Mr. Mingkai Xue was accused of subverting the state’s political power, and was sentenced to 4-year imprisonment. There were countless such examples. Chairman Jun Wang’s speech was warmly welcomed by the Congress, getting a long lasting applause. At the end, he called all the people gathering together to eradicate Chinese Communist dictatorship, and establishing freedom, human rights and rule of law.
