On August 31, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Vietnamese Democracy Appreciation Day and Bangladeshi North American Convention were held in Massachusetts State House. Vietnamese and the SBTN from across the nation as well as members of Bangladeshis American Community abroad and VIP from Bangladesh gathered in Massachusetts State House celebrating Vietnamese Democracy Appreciation Day and attending Bangladeshi North American Convention. Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray, the Chairman of China Democracy Party and the president of China Democracy Journal Wang Jun, attended the meeting as the guests of honor. Hai Van Ha, the President of Southeast Asia Democracy Coalition, the Political Advisor of the Vietnamese National Television Saigon Broadcasting Television Network – Boston (SBTN) as well as the Chief Advisor of the Bangladeshi Community Convention, made a speech as the host of this meeting. Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray also made a speech representing the Massachusetts government. Several media reporters, guests and other participants, in total more than 100 people, attended the meeting.
The Massachusetts residents have welcomed Vietnamese refugees to come and settle in Massachusetts since 1975, Over 200,000 Vietnamese Americans currently reside in New England and these Vietnamese American leaders would like to say thank you to the Massachusetts community that was willing to help the Vietnamese refugees start a new life where their human rights are respected and democratic ideals are enjoyed. These leaders would also like to express their gratitude to the politicians of Massachusetts who have continued to support and fight for human rights for the people in Vietnam and for those around the world. Today, the President of Southeast Asia Democracy Coalition, the Political Advisor of the Vietnamese National Television Saigon Broadcasting Television Network and other political leaders in Vietnamese community gathered in the State House to express their gratitude towards the people in Massachusetts, at the same time, they awarded the Medal of Freedom and Human Rights to Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray, and Mr. Murray solemnly accepted the medal with historical significance. Then he delivered a warm speech representing the Massachusetts government.
Bangladeshi American community from across the nation also gathered at the Nurses Hall. This day marks the first time in which the Bangladeshi American community holds the Bangladeshi North American Convention in Boston. The purpose of the Convention is to integrate the people of Massachusetts with the Bangladeshi community and to promote the traditions, culture and heritage of the Bangladeshi community. High-ranking officers and professionals from Bangladesh, as well as the certain leaders from the Bangladesh American communities attended the meeting at the Great Hall.
After the meeting, the organizer, the Vietnamese National Television Saigon Broadcasting Television Network held a press conference in the State House, reporting the achievements of this conference. (SBTN is a global television network that is broadcasted nationally across the United States as well as Asia, Australia, Canada and Europe)
