On September 8, 2012 between 11:00 am and 14:00, NY&NJ Tibetan Community, Youth Congress, Chushi Gangdruk, Women Association, US Committee and SFT as a together are holding signature and torch relay campaign in front of Chinese consulate general in the theme of “Flame of Truth Relay”. Hundreds of members of New York and New Jersey Tibetan community, as well as New York Chinese representatives who support “Flame of Truth Relay”, attended this campaign, and several mainstream Medias reported this activity.
The campaign is organized by the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, based in India, launched a worldwide Flame of Truth Relay on July 6, 2012, the birthday of His Holiness the fourteenth Dalai Lama, to carry the message of the people in Tibet to the world-including the tragedy of 51 Tibetan self-immolations since February 2009. The “Flame of Truth Relay” also incorporates the collection of signatures on a public petition to be submitted to U.N. headquarters in New York, the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva, and the U.N. Information Office in New Delhi on December 10, 2012, the concluding day of the worldwide relay, in order to urge an appropriate response from the United Nations to the current crisis situation in Tibet.
September 2, 2012 was the 52th anniversary of “Tibet Democracy Day” in memory of the first elected Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, and on the very day, the “Flame of Truth Relay” was held in Washington DC. The relay will be held in 22 main cities in North America, including Philadelphia, New York, and Boston. In today’s rally in New York, the representatives of different organizations made speeches on behalf of the Tibetan who are deprived basic human rights (including right to speech, right to religion, and right to assembly).
Invited by the organizers of North America “Flame of Truth Relay”, the chairman of China Democracy Party and the president of China Democracy Journal, Jun Wang leaded China Democracy Journal reporters attended the campaign. Chairman Wang also made a speech titled “Support Tibetan’s Pursuit of Freedom and Human Rights” in the rally.
