Police stand guard in Terminal 2 after a gunman armed with a semi-automatic rifle opened fire at the airport, killing a Transportation Security Administration employee and wounding two other people, at Los Angeles International Airport, Nov. 1, 2013.

More details have emerged about the shooting Friday at the Los Angeles International Airport that left one person dead.

"The suspect has been identified as Paul Anthony Ciancia, 23, a resident of Los Angeles," said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, speaking hours after a gunman pulled a semi-automatic rifle out of a bag and opened fire inside the L.A. airport's Terminal 3.

Officials say one Transportation Security Administration employee was killed, with at least one other wounded by the shooter. Seven people were hurt during the incident.

Police have the suspect, who was wounded in a shootout with police, in custody.

Witnesses say the gunman asked people if they were with TSA, and then moved on without firing when they said "No."

Officials have not revealed the gunman's motive, but L.A. International Airport Police Chief Patrick Gannon said evidence indicates he acted alone. "We believe, at this point, that there was a lone shooter, that he acted, at least right now, was the only person that was armed in this incident."

Airport official Gina Marie Lindsey said passengers are now being allowed back into Terminals 1 and 2. "There were about 740 flights that were affected. Forty-six of those were diverted to other local airports. The rest were either held on the ground here at LAX or their originating airport."

Airport operations are slowly returning to normal, but Terminal 3 remains closed as police gather more information.
