CDPWU Attended the 3rd Int’l China-Tibet Dialogue Conference in New York

On March 10 and March 11, International China-Tibet Association held the 3rd Int’l China-Tibet Dialogue Conference in Flushing Sheraton Hotel in New York, US. More than 20 people both of Han and Tibetan nationalities from all over the world were invited and delivered presentations at the conference. More than 50 representatives from India, Taiwan, Europe, Japan and the United States made discussions on topics on Tibetan Current Conditions, Tibetan Government-in-Exile, the Current Status of and Evaluation on Tibetan-China Negotiation, and Future of Tibet. Buqiongcairen, who on behalf of Dhalai Lama, went to Beijing and negotiated with the Chinese Government, expressed that what Tibetans are most dissatisfied with are two issues: the gradual diminishing of Tibetan cultures and Han people pouring into Tibet. He went on to say that China is using delaying tactics in Tibetan issues, thinking that if Dhalai Lama passed away, it can appoint the successor as it appointed Banchan Lama many years ago, and have Tibetan issues solved naturally.
Renqinzhaxi, Deputy Director of International Support Tibet Movement expressed, according to history, Tibet used to be independent upon China, however, Dhalai Lama gave up independence of Tibet long ago. He said, “It has been more than 20 years since Dhalai Lama gave up independence of Tibet. We are talking about the future of Tibet, which will benefit both Tibetan and the Chinese people. Therefore, independence is not our goal to pursue and our goal is to achieve real autonomy, which can protect and develop Tibetan cultures.”
Hu, Ping, Xiang, Xiaoji and Fei, Liangyong spoke at the seminar and criticized Chinese autocratic government and also expressed their understanding of Tibetan hope of independence, anyhow they do not agree that Beijing’s rule in Tibet is one nationality’s suppression of another nationality, because Chinese Communist Party is suppressing the Han nationality equally.

International China-Tibet Dialogue Conference published news bulletin on the afternoon of March 11, 2007, which pointed out that, CCP does not have sincerity to dissolve Tibetan issues through negotiation. Tibetan issues need to form the material foundation on which the Han and Tibetan nationalities can coexist peacefully, through multilevel dialogue and communications between the two nationalities. In the history, there was a long term of friendship between the two nationalities. However in the part fifty years, there were many regrettable conflicts between them. In order to change this situation, we organized this International China-Tibet Dialogue Conference. It is our hope that dialogues will, under the universal value of mutual freedom, democracy, human rights and justice, promote more communications between the Han nationality and Tibetan nationality, and make them to dissolve historic hatred and current bias resulted from CCP government’s wrong policies, and promote the realization of China-Tibet coexistence under the principle of mutual understanding and mutual benefit.

Attendants of the conference are not optimistic about the outcome of negotiation between Dhalai Lama’s representative and the Chinese Government. However, they coordinately appeal the Chinese government to demonstrate its good will by inviting Dhalai Lama to Beijing to watch the 2008 Olympic Games and express its sincerity to dialogue with Tibet and to show the look of a peaceful giant nation to the world.
