CDP member Chen, Shuqing was sentenced for 4 years in prison

HangZhou dissident, writer, CDP member Chen, ShuQing was sentenced 4 years in prison at first trial on the charge of “subverting the government”. Chen, ShuQing was given 4 years on the crime of subversion of the government with 1 year deprivation of political right. Chen, ShuQing at the court is said to appeal.
Cheng Shuqing age 43 graduated from Zhejiang University with Master Degree in Science. He is a famous Internet writer in Zhejiang Province, and member of Zhejiang China Democracy Party Preparatory Committee. In recent years he published on the Internet many articles promoting freedom, democracy, rule of law, and against the autocratic and dictatorial rule. He was pressured by local government of ZheJiang and lost his job. Chen, Shuqing gained attorney qualification by self-education, but was refused for attorney license by ZheJiang local Government due to his political belief. On Sep 13, 06 HangZhou intermediate people’s court open trial for Chen, ShuQing who refuse to admit crime charged. Chen, ShuQing refused to admit the CCP government, his attorney also made the defense of his innocence.
Defense counsel Li, JianQiang claimed the criminal charge for Chen, ShuQing is completely wrong; also the punishment is too harsh. Since Chen, ShuQing is only explaining his political views, and has not been involved in any act or speech of overthrowing the current government. The punishment for the so-called crime has no legal basis.
