New York held meeting "welcome Dr. Yang return to the United States"
On September 8, 2007, the 21st Century Foundation and the "Beijing Spring" magazine, jointly held meeting in New York to welcome Dr. Yang return to the United States.
Dr. Yang, JianLi was dilivering his speech
Yang, JianLi received the Math Doctor Degree from University of California, and later received Doctor Degree in political economics from Harvard University. In 1989 he returned China to support the student movement with the contribution from overseas Chinese students. He was blacklisted by CCP government for long-term participation in the democratic movement. In April 2002 he returned China without permission from the customs, he visited Anshan, Shenyang, Daqing to investigate the protests of the workers. He was arrested before leaving China, and was sentenced to five years in prison. In April 2007 Yang, Jianli was released after serving his terms, and reunite with their families on August 18 in the United States.

Yang said that our efforts today are to lower the cost for future generations. When everyone can take the sacrifice, more people will stand up and defend their own rights as well as others, then China＇s democracy will have good conditions. He had received “Javier articles collection” from friends in prison – the author wrote: you can do anything, and they are all helpful. Yang, Jianli said: if you uphold human honor, human rights and act and do things following the truth, China will change>
Yang said: "China＇s democracy future is optimistic because I will act. I hope everyone has that belief. Everyone think like I do: Because of me, China has a future of democracy. Thanks to all!
“Beijing Spring" magazine director Wang Dan presented "BeiJing Spring freedom Pioneer Award" to Yang, JianLi. From now on, this award will be awarded each year to those people who made outstanding contribution to China＇s democracy, freedom, human rights, and rule of law.
