Xueming Fang: Environmental deterioration becomes the new crisis of Chinese society

From the reform and opening-up, Chinese economy has rapidly developed. It has brought the affluence to people, and the environmental deterioration also brought new crisis, or even threats. It is also a big threat to our health.

Currently, Chinese river has suffered serious pollution. The data indicates that in rural China, one-third of rural population have failed to drink pure water. Drinking water has been polluted seriously and the quality of water is not qualified. Non-drinking water has even violated the sanitary standards, because it comes from ground contamination. Polluted water leads to different kinds of diseases, and the disease accidents and death rates are higher than the worldwide standards.

A bunch of Medias often suspect of Chinese water resource, food safety and air quality. International environmentalism specialists also strictly pointed out that China isn’t far away from disaster. Hence, China should enforce the legislation of environmental protection, and take responsibility to improve the investment on environmental protection.
