Runxia Liu: Why Chinese enterprises won’t emphasize environmental protection

I had been working in Chinese factory for couple of years. What I have been impressed most is the dark heavy smoke emitting from the chimney. Waste water of different workshops is the same as the life waste water. It directly discharges the unprocessed waste water into the sewer. The chemical wastes emit poisonous gas into the factory zone 24 hours per day. However, from workers to supervisors or factory director, they only pursue high productivity, efficiency and GDP. No one emphasizes on the pollution problems and ignore the investment on environmental protection.

The government and officials who administrate the seriously polluted enterprises don’t punish but foster them. The reason is extremely simple. The government only focuses on the so called achievements and stagnates the environmental protection or energy saving on the literacy.

Chinese government should emphasize on the environmental protection, enforce the degree of environmental legislation or monitor, endow the environmental protection organizations’ monitor and punish power and let Chinese environmental protection can gradually get on the right track.
