Kequan Liu: Why Chinese People Lose Faith in the Government

Chinese government almost talks about probity every month and anti-corruption everyday. However, more and more corruption problems appear and the degree become deeper and deeper. This is not because corruptive officials have evil character, but the corruptive social circumstances make them so. China has a social system of one-party dictatorship, the main feature of which is a lack of supervision on the duties of government and an absence of effective legal restrictions on the officials’ power. That why officials in Chinese government find it difficult to keep away from corruption.

Chinese people expect an uncorrupted government in which no official will be corruptive. People can receive service from the government without sending bribes. The officials and ordinary people can live equally in a society with justice and equality. Nevertheless, all these are merely good wishes of the people. In contemporary Chinese Society, corruptive officials are seen everywhere. Ordinary people live in poverty and rags. They can be easily persecuted and discriminated. Yet, the government dares to say there is no corruption in the government and the people are affluent. The lie is totally unfaithful. Chinese people have already lost faith in the government. Only multi-party ruled political system can save the dynasty of China.
