Pu, Shaohua: The Serious Income Gap in China Deepens the Social Contradictions
普绍华(Pu, Shaohua)
China’s social crises emerge continuously. The morality and civilization has reached the edge of collapse. Polarization and income gap have created the unfairness and instability of Chinese society.
Throughout the international community, there are social difference existing between nations and regions. Some countries have the same degree of income gap as the situation in China, but their society is much more stable, disparate from the unsteady Chinese society. Why Americans can take the giant amount of wealth of Bill Gates for granted, paying no attention to his great differences from the ordinary people? That’s because, US is a society of equal rights. No matter how much a person gets, it’s the output of one’s personal endeavor and capacity. Bill Gate gains his wealth by his efforts and intelligence. The US society provides equal chances for its citizens, so that the people have no dissatisfaction or complaint.
The constitution of all democratic and free countries endow their people same opportunities to succeed. Success or fail depend on one’s persona endeavor. Based on this reason, they can calmly understand the truth of inequality, even though the gap is great.
The serious problem of income gap in China doesn’t form naturally, but emerges from privilege and discrimination. In this society, only a few privileged people have access to capital and support of government. People from lower-classes are not able to promote their living conditions and social statues by individual efforts. They are exploited of their progressing opportunities. This is the main reason causing lots of social contradictions and conflicts in China.
