Kequan Liu: The Main Reason for the Poverty in China is a Lack of Emphasis on Education

Education has deep relation with a country’s politics, economics and culture and critically influences the survival and development of a nation and an ethic. After the World War II, many Asian countries took education as a useful method to swipe poverty, promote economy and revive national industry, and in turn realized the all-round development, including economics, politics and national culture.
Developing education can revive a nation, which can be clearly seen from Japan’s success: Japan’s long standing emphasis on education after war is a powerful force to push forward its economy. The high speed growth of Japan’s economy caused the attention of the whole world. To analyze it success, the investment on large scale of educational projects is a reason. Because of the development of education went together with the strengthening of economy and progress of society, the country has transformed from a dependence on population growth to a dependence on improvement of population quality. Therefore, the economic never depends on physical labors but the intellectual exploit and technical innovation. All of these show the strategic function of education in a country and a nation’s survival and development.
In the 60 years, Chinese society still suffers poverty. The lack of emphasis on education is a critical cause. Nowadays, Chinese government and its officials have reached an agreement: develop education and enlarge educational investment, so to provide continuous drive force for the country’s development. For China, only education can help get rid of poverty, and only education can lead to prosperity.
