Lijing Xu: Economy Needs Development and Environment Needs Protection

The economy of China has been continuously undergoing high speed progress for these years. Meanwhile, the environment and ecology are increasingly deteriorating. The degree of environment pollution has reached dangerously high level making all people worried. The environment pollution in Chinese regions has direct connection with a lack of emphasis on environment protection in Chinese government’s policies. The pollution problems have attracted attention from international community and international organizations of environment protection.

The facts have shown that the emerging environment pollution is not only an environmental problem, but also a political problem. In a one-party ruled China, the government sets economy progress as their foremost goal. Therefore, all local governments and officials around China sacrifice environment to pursuit economical production and benefits. No enough funds are put into solving environment pollution. The government ignores lasting protests from people and appeals from international community, which leads to worse situation of environment.

Chinese government must pay more attention on problems of environment pollution, enlarge investment on environment protection funds and improve people’s awareness of environment protection. This is what a good favor the Chinese government can do.
