Xiyun Shi: Chinese Officials Get Promoted Faster When They Corrupt More

The corruptive officials in Chinese government are a special group. We can see an obvious fact from the consequence of so-called “Anti-Corruption” activity of Chinese government: The exposed corruptive officials are becoming higher in their positions and the amount of embezzled money is increasing. On the contrary, the number of punished officials is decreasing. Some officials get promoted faster when they corrupt more money. They become the most excellent officials in their departments. A village mayor is limited in his ability to corrupt because of the restricted power in his hands that he lacks the possibility to exchange the power with cash. In their political career, officials not “prominent” enough will face difficulties in their promotion. All corruptive officials are promoted quicker along with the larger amount of corrupted money.

Officials in Chinese government don’t allow anyone to critic or supervise them, also prohibit all kinds of restrictions. These are all contributed by the long-term one-party dictatorship in Chinese society, lack of normal opposite party system and absence of speech freedom.

Seem from all, when Chinese society has no democratic system, no multi-party rule and no supervision and restrictions over government officials, any form of anti-corruption will have no effect.
