Yuan Zhu: Missing Loved Ones in Festival Season

It’s again the time of Spring Festival. When I company my mom to watch the celebrative Chinese New Year Party on CCTV, a piece of past event happened 40 years ago emerges in my memory.
In that year, the CCP authority considered my father as an anti-party person and isolated him in the workplace to be inspected and do individual review. When the time approached Chinese Spring Festival, I asked my mother and elder sister: “Could I see father in Spring Festival?” My mum was so sad and implored CCP leaders to allow my sister and me to see my father in Spring Festival. However, she was rudely rejected by the CCP authority. We had a rough idea of where was y father imprisoned, so my mum cooked a chicken for my father. On the first day of Chinese New Year, my sister and I held a large pot which is tightly packed and stood in distance to observe the buildings my father in. My sister said: “It seems no person in other rooms. Only that one has people inside, probably our father. The people outside must be the guards. You come to talk with him so to wrap him.” I collect my courage to move near to the guards and asked him about his New Year celebration. Then, my sister took the pot into the room. The guard quickly followed her, so did me. My father was indeed kept in this room. However, my sister and I were kicked out instantly. Therefore, we had seen our father for a short glimpse in the Spring Festival. My sister told my mother what our father said to her: “Tell your mother not to worry about me. I have nothing to review.” Lately, the CCP leaders warned my mother never to allow my sister and I to step near to my father.
Time files and the CCP government still behaves in its old fashion after so many years. The people are not permitted to have individual thoughts and opinions. The government arrests China Democracy Party members, rights defenders, dissents, religionists and petitioners willfully. At the time of festival season, many innocent people arrested and persecuted by CCP can’t get together with their families. It was so heart breaking for them. All these reflect the autocratic quality of CCP. Only under the rule of a democratic system, can a nation truly prosper and strengthen. We all Chinese who love our country do have the responsibility and obligation to oppose one-party dictatorship and strive for a democratic China.
