Jun Yang: Protecting Forests is an Important Work in Environment Protection

To develop the rural economy, government of China has tolerated the over cutting of trees in forests, which makes many local forests suffer different degrees of destruction. Forests are the guardian of environment. When large scale of forests is destroyed, the ecological balance is broken and the environment loses its shield. After the deterioration of ecological environment, water resources and rivers are drying up, soil is losing and sand storm increases. Floods and droughts are now common. This phenomenon is especially serious in remote areas of western China where the economy is undeveloped.

The ecological environment of a region once destructed, the environment can’t keep natural balance anymore. Because the climate changes, the humidity of air decreases and conditions for constituting rains disappear. As a result, floods and droughts aggravate.

The government of China must take initiatives to effectively protect forests. The coverage of forests can reduce desertification and lose of soil and water. The ecological balance is then revitalized. Government should promote planting grass and trees. Meanwhile, encouraging peasants to do reclamation of farmlands and decrease the cutting of forests. These are the key to revitalizing and ameliorating ecological environment. It is an important work in environment protection as well.
