Nan Zhao: Speech Freedom is the Basic Rights of People

As a normal person living in the society, we need to express our speeches freely. If we have no speech freedom, we can’t speak well and truly express our thoughts, nor can we contact perfectly with surrounding people. The government of China strictly limits people’s speech freedom, not allows people to express their thoughts upon government’s deeds nor proposes critics.

Government of China requires people only to say agreeable words or positive sayings. All talks must benefit the stability and solidarity of society. That means what the government says, the media should report as it and so do people. Otherwise, government will use reason of “destroy social stability” to investigate people’s responsibility. People with severe situations will be arrested and put into prison.

Chinese people need speech freedom. As a nation’s government, it should ameliorate the environment for speech freedom, promote reform of democratic politics and implement democratic system. As a result, Chinese people can truly embrace the rights of speech freedom.
