Zhang, Zongping: Appeal for Chinese Government to Open up Internet

In last few years, Chinese government not only strengthens the censorship on internet and supervises the usage of internet, also trains millions of “Internet Police” to control and censor the internet. The information on internet is censored and infiltrated. Specific words, names and expressions are deleted from the searching results. People are restricted from getting information from the internet. Moreover, domestic internet users are forbidden to visit uncensored websites or some foreign websites. Companies and individuals are required to do self censorship as well.

These actions of Chinese government deprave nonviolent political speeches and citizens’ rights of privacy. In spite of this, government also punishes people who dare to violate the rules. These behaviors done by Chinese government have shown the world how it threats information freedom and violates the “Global Human Rights Declaration” of United Nations.

The internet has entered millions of families in China and it promotes the democratic reform in China as well. The economy of China can develop faster and Chinese people also connect the world more under help of internet. All the facts have proven that CCP’s blockade on internet has caused intense resistance from Chinese people and severe blames from international community. We have adequate reasons to believe that a democratic society with a free internet and speech freedom will come.
