Zhang, Guohong: We Memorize the 20th Anniversary of “June 4, 1989”
张国红(Zhang, Guohong)
20 years ago in 1989, in Beijing of China, thousands of students and citizens expressed their desire for democracy and freedom. They went onto the streets, held signs, shouted slogans and appealed the government to punish corruption and embezzlement. They hoped the government could promote the democracy political reform. This event became a bright page of China’s history.
However, at the dawn of June 4 that year, CCP authority assigned armed military, using tanks and guns, to cruelly and bloodily oppress the world famous democracy movements. Large numbers of students and citizens tragically fell under the guns of these so-called “People’s Liberty Army”. This massacre became the darkest page of Chinese history.
Today is 20 years after that date and we memorize June 4. We show condolence the dead people who devote their lives for their ideals. They are the heroes of Chinese nation. We memorize them and the history will record them.
2 decades have passed. Chinese people have suffered many difficulties and tragedies on the road towards democracy and freedom. However, we haven’t given up and we can’t give up. We believe, a multi-party ruling China with democracy, freedom and human rights will come.
