Wang, Xueyuan: Must Put Power under Supervision of Laws
王雪原(Wang, Xueyuan)
In history and culture of China, there is a universally acknowledged saying, that is, being officials is to make money and becoming officials will be rich at the same time. Contemporary China has stepped to the civilized and modern society. Chinese government always claims that government officials are people’s servants. The officials must be clean and serve the people. However, this society is full of corruption. Corruption has formed a “Mainstream Culture”. No matter officials or people, once they have chance to corrupt, nobody will resist the temptation of money. It’s not to say that Chinese people like corruption. It’s the inappropriate social system gives people the chance to corrupt.
Chinese government officials have absolute power out of the restrictions of laws. This power gets rid of people’s supervision. Chinese government never search the problems from system, but set some departments and institutions to do anti-corruption. What’s the outcome? The corruption becomes increasingly severe after the anti-corruption. Cases of corruption appear more and more. The amount of corrupted money is enlarging.
People criticize for not taking effective initiatives. The government only shows a few gestures. The officials often abuse power regardless of laws. They use power to exchange money. When democracy and freedom system is realized in China, power is put under supervision of laws and officials accept people’s supervision, anti-corruption will be much easier.
