Zhu, Dongfang: Enlightenment from Yushu Earthquake and 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquakes

The rescue activities in Yushu earthquakes have many things in common with Wenchuan earthquake:
1. The specialists from National Earthquake Department ignored earthquake alarms once again.
Before Wenchuna earthquake, people from folks forecasted the earthquake inside Sichuan province. However, to make sure the stability before the Olympics, the government decided not to report. China’s earthquake specialist Geng, Qinyuan made a medium-term forecast in 2006 according to the relation between droughts and earthquakes that the region of Aba will encounter an earthquake over 7 grade. On April 26 and 27, in the committee conference of “Natural Disaster Forecast Committee” under leadership of China Earth Physics Academy”, the committee made the prediction that a 6-7 grade earthquake would happen in the boundary between Sichuan, Dansu and Qinghai provinces. (The written report had been sent to National Earthquake Department with a secret file.) Moreover, according to strong magnetic storm combination, the committee put out clearly that “danger of earthquake in Aba region will be around May 8 (about 10 days before and after)”. (The above report includes all three factors of an earthquake forecast). Though the report is valuable, it is rejected by the mainstream earthquake specialists who work for the people in power. People in the committee can only live on scarce funds from their retire salary and keep on doing research. Pitifully, the statement of this retired specialist was not taken for serious and made no effect. There was a 4.7 grade former earthquake in Yushu which was not paid enough attention.
2. During the 72 hours golden rescue phase, the government restricted the helps from folks and experienced international rescue team. 72 hours after the Wenchuan earthquake, rescue teams from Russia, Japan, Korea and Singapore were then allowed to stretch out their rescue to the most seriously suffered areas like Qingchuan, Shifang and Mianzhu. Their rescue only became a search for corpses. The 22 people dug out by Japan team were all dead. There were only about 400 hundred people died at beginning of Yushu earth. After 72 hours, the death toll increased tremendously. Until presently, there were over 2 thousand people dead. All these have proven people’s criticism on the authority’s disaster rescue policy.
3. The so-called “Tofu Dross” constructions of the primary and middle school buildings. In Wenchuan earthquakes, there are 80,000 people died and students as the group having highest toll, over 5,000 thousand dead. People died in Yushu earthquake are more than 2 thousand. School building which passed 2009 quality censorship collapsed more than 70%. Over 200 students were killed.
CCP authority continues severe oppression on domestic activists and intellectuals to hamper the information from revealing.
