Gao, Runchun: A Government Must Attach Importance on Environment Protection

At some regions in China, we can often see polluting factories emitting black smoke, dirty water and smelly wastes. Water in some areas is not drinkable. Vegetables and fruits with beautiful appearance can’t be eaten. Some food contains poisons inside.
This is the consequences of Chinese government’s long term ignorance of environment protection. Since Chinese government’s reform and open up, it has centered on economy construction and puts environment protection at position as the weaken chain. To Chinese government, economy development is beneficial to the decrease of population in poverty. Nowadays, economy is improved and population in destitution also decreases. However, all these have sacrificed environment as a price. A government must understand that if it puts “economy development more than anything, environment will become a serious problem.
To stop government’s lack of actions on environment protection, it should give ordinary people, organizations and institutions the rights to supervise environment protection work, in addition to more investment of funds on environment protection. By restricting and supervising legislation on environment protection from many aspects, the environment protection work in China will progress at a positive direction.
