Fang,Deqing: Chinese Government Must Emphasize Environment Protection

China has serious environment pollution problem, which is not an isolated issue. At present, China has become the world’s factory. However, some local governments only focus on production value and economic benefits instead of implementing environment protection strategies. Industrial polluted water is released into rivers directly, industrial residue is piled in natural surrounding, and toxic gases is emitted without treatment. Pollution is very severe in rural areas near coal enterprises. It takes only a few seconds to accumulate a layer of black dust on windshield of a just parked care. Many polluted rivers cannot be used to irrigate farmland, let alone as drinking water resource.
Most Chinese people have a similar experience. The Sky is gray and water in river is dirty. For the sake of their personal benefits, local governments usually collaborate with bosses of enterprises with pollution issue to allow them to pollute environment freely at the cost of damaging environment.
The consequence of deteriorating environment is very dreadful. Toxic material endangers people’s health and even lives directly via atmosphere, water resources and food. Pollution in China not only influences the sustainable development of local areas, but also affects surrounding environment by radiation. Chinese government must lay emphasis on environment protection during the development of economic construction.
