Yang, Shankai: Comments on Xijianping’s Critique on Some Foreigners’ Finding Fault on Chinese Domestic Affair
杨善凯(Yang, Shankai)
Xi, Jianping, the vice chairman of the P. R. China, Said: “In the international financial crisis, China has solved the problem of providing food to 13 billion people, which is already the greatest contribution to mankind.” He also pointed out that some foreigners find fault on Chinese domestic Affair. “Some nosy foreigners who have too much free time to squander find fault on our affair. China does not export revolution, hunger and poverty. In addition, we do not disturb you. What can you criticize?” I feel funny after hearing it.
I often hear such comment: China uses so little proportion of land to support so large proportion of people. Such comment is easy to confuse people because it uses the group name, China. Who is China? According to Xi’s comment, it refers to the government. The government supports so many people via so little amount of land, so it deserves credit. It confused the concept. In fact, it is the 13 billion people that support themselves. Even the government is supported by the people. What else to say? It is funny to see a government which can not represent the people’s intention to ask for such credit.
Xi’s words make me remember North Korea, a country under the same communism autocratic system. At first, North Korea does not export revolution (Even people can not run out). The second, it does not export hunger and poverty (Everyone who runs away from it will be arrested and punished with severe penalty). The third, it does not disturb others. (It does not have the necessary ability). The outsiders can not see the inside of North Korea , so what can they say? Closing its door to torture its citizens to death does not disturb others at all. According to such a standard, North Korea is qualified. According to such logic, people have to shut up their mouths in front of humanity disaster created by a cruel government as long as their citizens die within their sovereignty. If I were a tyranny, I would agree to it totally. Democracy and freedom is relative. Compared with North Korea, China possess only a little bit more freedom. For instance, the majority has the right to leave and enter China freely. As a result, Chinese culture can be disseminated overseas and national power of China is stronger than that of North Korea. However, compared with real democratic countries, China is completely autocratic. At least, people who live in those countries with democracy and freedom totally have reason to believe so. Therefore, they naturally will criticize countries with less democracy and freedom as they believe. This is an original humanity spirit. It is similar to the following case. When someone commits domestic violence, neighbors come over to persuade. If the perpetrator says: “Go away. This is our domestic affair. It is none of others’ business!” Such a person is shameless!
There is an old saying in China: When you stay in a stinky place for a long time, you will not realize the stinking smell any more. If a person stays in a stinky room ever since his birth, he will not realize it after being used to it. However, people from the outside will feel the difference immediately. The Chinese public have accepted autocratic ruling by the CCP since childhood. As a result, they have carried servant concept for a long time. Such thought suppresses their innate resistance consciousness. In a country without even freedom in mass media, how many people really acknowledge under what condition they are living?
In order to make a country truly strong and rich, the priority lies in improving quality of people. For Chinese people, when they get rid of servant idea and are brave to criticize ugly phenomena in society with awareness that they should be real masters of the country, wave of revolution will come, then victory of democracy will arrive.
