Bao, Shuqun: Corruption in Chinese Education Cannot be Taken Easy
包树群(Bao,Shuqun)
In many countries in the world, especially in those developed ones, education is extremely valued because it not only bears the responsibility of transferring human civilization, but also promotes future competency of a country. The Chinese public all hope their next generation can receive good education; the government also wishes to fully carry out items of compulsory education effectively, hoping that the target, strengthening the country via education, is not just a dream.
However, corruption exists in authorities on all different levels of Chinese education department. Some educational management organizations even embezzle limited education fund. Principals and directors concoct various pretexts to charge students for selecting schools and ask for sponsorship fee. Teachers follow suit and engage in earning sales commission from textbook and extra curriculum change on a high profile. Behind all the corruption activities, relevant officials supervising the education department cannot shed their responsibility. They accept bribe under table and connive spreading of corruption in education, which makes corruption in education a vicious circle.
Officials in charge of education in the government cannot maintain their personal integrity. Teachers cannot be a model for students and can not seriously implement items regarding compulsory education. Converting education into an industry on big scale makes various ugly corruption phenomena come into being in many places. For the sake of prohibiting corruption in education, it is not enough to depend only on self-discipline of teachers. Instead, we should make all authorities of education department under powerful supervision, starting from reform on current education institution.
