Zhu, Fengxia: Concerns about China’s environmental pollution
朱凤霞(Zhu, Fengxia)
Currently, half of China's rivers are severely polluted. As the data shows: morbidity and mortality caused by various diseases after having contaminated drinking water in China is much higher than the world average. In China's vast rural areas, in one-third of rural population lack clean water, which means the source of drinking water pollution has prominent problem and the quality does not meet the standard. Besides, problems with non-potable water are more serious to meet health requirements. Some of the pollutions are mainly caused by pollution from industry on the ground.
From the beginning of China's economic reform and open-up policy, the rapid development has brought not only the prosperity to the people living, but the gradual deterioration of the environment crisis which could be a potential damage to human health threats.
Many Chinese people have questioned the safety of China's water and food problems of air quality problems, and so is the government responsible. International environmental experts also seriously pointed out that the environmental disaster in China is not far away. Therefore, the Chinese government must take measures as soon as possible such as establish strict environmental protection legislation, increase investment to improve and protect the environment.
