Chen，Yanmin: Appeal for Chinese Government to Stop Censorship on Internet

Chinese government is imposing more and more tight control over internet. It put internet information under censorship system and block or delete words and contents about democracy，freedom and democratic politics. We can say that China has the best technology in internet blocking. More than this，all levels of Chinese government supervise internet cafes. All cafes are required to register visitor by their real names. Some cafes not complying with government regulations will be shut down. And internet users will be restricted or forbidden to surf internet in internet cafes. Adolescents are under more serious restrictions. The explanations given by government are: Internet will have great impact on adolescents and many are already addicted to internet. Internet hasn’t played positive effects on the youth but led them into addiction to internet chatting rooms.

The restrcitions on internet and the censorship system from Chinese government discriminate the worldwide internet commerces and business. An open internet is an important component of international economy and commerce. The restrictions and censorchip from Chinese government cause large loss to the international commerce. Corporations from all industries using internet to connect clients also feel the pains.

Free and open internet will have great influence on world’s civilization and development. International society all appeal for effective initiatives to stop Chinese government from restrcting and censoring internet. The internet can then develop healthily.
