Jiang, Shuqing: Speech Freedom Must Have True Actions

Chinese people need speech freedom. No.35 term in China’s constitution requires: “Chinese citizens have the freedom of speech, press, rally, organize and demonstration”. The Constitution grants Chinese citizens one of the most important right, which is the basis of ordinary existence and development in Chinese society as well. According to terms in Chinese constitution, Chinese people have the rights to gain and spread all information and thoughts through oral or written forms.

However, Chinese people have no speech freedom nowadays. Ordinary Chinese people can’t completely enjoy the freedom to propose and publish their ideas. This freedom has been invaded and depraved by the government without reason. They don’t have basic freedom to express opinions and thoughts.

Facts have proven that the protection over speech freedom in the constitution only stay on the paper. It completely goes against the original purpose of legislation. The “Speech” in speech freedom not only includes oral forms, but also written forms. The most important point is to have true actions.
