Wang, Cong: The Chinese Education System must be Fair and Equitable
王聪(Wang,Cong)
The unequal education opportunity is the main factor of expansion of urban-rural differences and polarization of wealth. Many Chinese people make every effort to let their children have good education in order to avoid poverty. Although the Chinese government suggested solving the unequal education problem in recent years, there are still no specific solutions for that. The unequal education condition is obvious to all: urban schools are superior to rural schools in aspect of education fund, teaching forces and teaching conditions. The discrepancy is more obvious economically in underdeveloped areas.
Additionally, when it’s time for the admission of college entrance examination, the college enrolment system doesn’t give appropriate preferential treatments or make restitution to rural students because they are from disadvantaged rural areas, on the contrary, the system discriminates them further. For many years, the Chinese government received wide criticism on the discriminatory education system. Education officials usually ignore or refuse to reply, or simply do nothing.
The unreasonable education situation has been contradicted with the propagandized equal education; Chinese people traditionally value children’s education, and have concerns over the unequal education situation in China; how to solve the unequal education problem, or basically achieve education fairness is a problem Chinese government must solve. Chinese government has to reform the education system to eliminate the discriminatory education system and have a fair, impartial, and reasonable education.
