Weng,Haimei : China’s One Child Policy brings misfortune to the whole nation
翁海妹(Weng,Haimei)
The one child policy brought up by the Chinese government is a huge mistake in Chinese history, and it’s a reckless one. It didn’t go through scientific arguments in those days, and all predicted targets came to nothing. China reduced hundreds of millions of population under the guidance and threat of demographers; however, people found that the one child policy didn’t contribute much to the economy and social development; economists reached similar conclusions.
The one child policy has no contribution to the modern Chinese society but is rather detrimental for centuries. It induces many families to raise the costs of rising children and reduces their generational will. The policy makes the Chinese society step into an age when they can’t afford raising children, weakens the ability of population reproduction; accelerated the aging of population, caused the situation of “getting old without wealth” and difficult to establish a reasonable social security system.
In the meantime, the family planning policy increased some people’s concept of men is superior to women, increased sex ratios at birth; reduced family risks; accelerated contradictions between officials and ordinary people; threatened social stability; undermines China’s international image. Therefore, the Chinese government has to abolish the one child policy unconditionally.
