Huang,Peiming:Environment protection is the duty and obligation of government

In some rural areas in China, government encourages farmers to lumber forests immoderately with no protection of ecological equilibrium so as to develop economy. The consequences are damages of forests, water loss and soil erosion, and frequent debris flow, all of which directly comprise people’s life and safety of properties.
In western places in China, government advocate strongly to develop economy which generate huge amounts of industrial waste water and solid wastes; more exhausts come with more automotives, carbon dioxide emissions are progressively worse, and air quality is getting worse. Since the reform and opening-up, frequent and excessive economic activities cause large amounts of industrial, agricultural garbage and liquid pollutants directly drained to rivers and lakes, which contaminated the limited water resources. Reports of startling data on media are cruel facts of our pollution of environment. That’s developing economy at the cost of polluting environment.
It is everybody＇s duty to take good care of environment. For Chinese government, it has to develop economy and protect environment at the same time. To punish those officials who have inaction of environment protection, government needs to enhance legislation, strengthen funding for environment protection, and gradually improve people’s environmental awareness, grant people and environment protection institutes with supervision power to protect environment, restrict and monitor enforcement of environment protection on every hand, thus to promote environment protection work in China to head toward an active and advanced direction.
