Wang,Yana: Appealing to the higher authorities for help and protecting legitimate rights are rights granted to the masses by law

In recent years, government corruption is getting worse, unjust cases and misjudged cases are getting more, unfair treatment are not uncommon, incidents of common people utilize legal weapon-appeal and petition are more than ever. However, the results are not so desirable. Appeal is very difficult, petitioners face obstacles all the time, they are usually beaten or even held in custody. When I write this article, I searched relevant information and news of “appeals and petitions” online, results showed are all negative news and dissatisfaction of common people. Though I personally don’t know much about appeals and petitions, and don’t involve in it personally, most of people have the same feeling as me. The first feeling when hearing appeals and petitions is people have nowhere to appeal and grievances are worsened.
Why rights granted by laws don’t work when we want to protect ourselves, but even more sufferings mentally and physically? Why all local governments want to cover the truths and resort to force when covering up doesn’t work? Why not think from people’s perspective and do good things for people? I believe if government agencies do things for the common people, and common people don’t have grudges, there won’t be many people form “appeal units”, relatively, government don’t need to stipulate a series of strict “Preventing appeals system”, and there is no further need for such system. It’s ridiculous that though the Constitution clearly claims to protect basic rights of people including freedom of speech and personal safety, how can such phenomenon appear? Isn’t this a slap in the face to the government? With so many basic rights stipulated in the constitution, how many rights are truly guaranteed? It’s no exaggeration that none is guaranteed. Now it even turns to some ridiculous system, judicial officials abuse their power to resist deserved rights of the masses. No wonder someone expressed on the internet that: appeals are not good as appeal to the higher authorities for help, appeal to the higher authorities for help is not good as logging on the internet. However, corruption of officials is everywhere, people’s right to know are deprived on the internet. What a pathetic society!
If CCP wants to survive stably, besides end one-party autocracy, CCP needs to show courage and fight for all illegal activities inter and outside of the party. All levels of government also have to realize that only serious execution of the constitution can people’s basic rights and self-interests be guaranteed, and the whole society will be more harmonious and united. If the CCP wants to prevent people from appealing to the higher authorities for help and maintain legal rights, CCP has to put people’s interests in the first place, listens to people’s heartfelt wishes is the kingcraft!
