Wang,Yana: Opinion and suggestion on education problems in China

王娅娜(Wang,Yana)
In recent seminars in headquarter, CDP members had intense discussion about education problems in China. I also expressed my opinion at the seminar. I want to illustrate in detail again here.
Everyone is worried about present education problem in China, such concerns is not meet trouble halfway, everyone can see problems exist in education from personal experience or from the angle of onlookers. If these problems are not emphasized and properly solved, world outlook and values of future generations will be affected.
The education degree and economy of a country has direct relations. It’s called the economic base determines the superstructure. One can have good education and establish right world outlook and values with good economic base. Try to imagine, if common people can’t even assure subsistence, who would care about quality of education?
Chairman Mao advocated everybody eating from the same big pot in the early days of new China. People at that time were naïve and didn’t have problems of food and clothing, they all had enough to eat no matter work or not. The system could cut both ways. The following Cultural Revolution arose students to go and work in the countryside and mountainous areas instead of studying. This is also an obscurantist policy adopted by Chairman Mao. People at that age didn’t receive good education and had low personal qualities. Our age has no problem with education. But too high tuition fees put ordinary families off. Considering practical situation, many parents rather prefer their children to work and solve primary demand. Let alone backward areas and mountainous areas. Attending school for those children is within sight but not within reach.
The reform and opening up improved standard of living, and those who could not go to college continued their education to fulfill their university dream. But how many of these institutes operate conscientiously? It’s nothing but generous profits. More of such schools lowered education quality. Many CDP members mentioned this problem as well. Education institutes, all ignores education quality out of interests. So many higher educations are just superficial phenomenon.
Due to the fast economic and social development, everything is about economic efficiency. No talking without economy. The endangered Chinese education is stroked by the inflated material benefits. At a glance, very few people still value education itself, let alone basic moral diathesis education. Children with rich families are sent abroad by their parents, and parents only care about materially. I personally think China at this stage, the social world outlook and values are overturned in China at this stage, from intellects to students most of them are submerged in foams of money. Speaking of education reform, I personally think educate people is more important than educate knowledge on books. Only establish good morals and good qualities can children supervise themselves and adjust themselves in future studying. Economic base is of course important, but traditional education can’t be abandoned. China is a ancient country with 5 thousand years of history, every Chinese should think about how to carry forward and further develop good tradition, and learn values of propriety, righteousness, integrity, and honour.
