The Chinese government has oppressed and arrested dissents continuously in recent years; from opposing Liu, Xiaobo’s winning of Nobel Prize to arresting dissent Ai, Weiwei, many dissents have been arrested; Even those that just dare to speak have been banned to do so under the reason of potentially harming national security. It is said that even the family members have been persecuted. The breadth of attack is so comprehensive that it is rare after the “June 4th”, 21 years ago. This has put a very negative impact on the image of China and exposed the authoritarian and dictatorship of Chinese government.
Ai, Weiwei, the Chinese artist has been locked up for days and is investigated by the police under the charge of “economical crime”; however Ai, Weiwei’s family members don’t believe that he committed economical crime and the international society has also strongly questioned about this arrest. Ai, Weiwei is arrested due to his speech. He challenged the authority by inciting the investigation of “Nov 15th Fire”, sending out messages on Twitter. The Shanghai government refused to release the list of casualties using the excuse that the families didn’t want to release the list.
