Zhou, Wangbao: Reflections on participating in the 17th Commemoration of Vietnam Human Rights Day
周望宝(Zhou,Wangbao)
May 11, 2011 the 17th Commemoration of Vietnam Human Rights Day was held at the Congress in Washington D.C; U.S senators, union leaders, related human right organizations, non-government organizations, representatives of Vietnamese Communities all over the country and more than 300 Chinese democratic activists attended this commemoration. China Democracy Party was invited by the organization committee of the 17th Commemoration of Vietnam Human Rights Day. I, as a member of China Democracy Party attended the commemoration. The deteriorating situation of human rights, democracy, constitutionalism, and freedom of news and religion was discussed in details.
I think, as one of the signatories for Universal Declaration of Human Rights, China is obligated to comply with this declaration. For years, the Chinese government has been trampling human rights; as a country with 1.3 billion people, the situation of human rights hasn’t been improved, but has deteriorated.
We should pay attention to the human rights situation in China and call on the U.S government and global society to urge the Chinese government to stop persecution, give up violence, comply with contents of “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” and improve the human rights situation in China.
