Jiang, Ying: 22nd Commemoration of June 4th Massacre in 1989
蒋莹 (Ying Jiang)
It will be the commemoration of June 4th in less than 20 days. 22 years ago, in the early morning of June 4th, 1989, the Chinese government deployed armed military troops, tanks, and machine guns to march into Tian’anmen Square in Beijing. Many participating students and residents fell down to the ground under the guns of Chinese military. The Chinese government violently suppressed June 4th democracy movement in 1989 and created the June 4th Massacre.
For the past 22 years, the Chinese government and government officials have been avoiding June 4th massacre and stopping the media to report about June 4th Massacre. The purpose is to make people forget about the massacre. Although, it has been 22 years, the Chinese government still rejects political reforms, democracy and liberty; it still tramples human rights and cause the increasing disparity between the rich and the poor and the increasing corruption; it has caused people’s life harder and harder.
At the moment of 22nd commemoration of June 4th, 1989, we request the Chinese government to respect history, and openly apologize to the family members of the dead and the injured, so that the truth of June 4th massacre could be displayed in a fair, justified and open fashion and that democratic and free system could be realized in China
