Wang, Jun: The environment in China is deteriorating

Over 30 year ago, the Chinese government made a huge mistake when formulating economic policy. That is “taking economic development as the center of all”. This economic model is the major factor that caused the government to ignore environmental protection. For years, the economic achievements have damaged the natural environment in China.
Behind the fast development of China’s economy, the environmental pollution has been deteriorating. As of today, there is a lot of dust and toxic gas in the air; rivers and lakes have been polluted, and the type of fish and biological species has been decreasing; the drinking water in many regions is not to the health standards; food safety accidents are happening almost every day. China has become the most polluted area in the world and the environment has been devastatingly damaged.
The environmental pollution in China has placed potential threat to mankind. As a government managing a developed and populated country, the Chinese government should treat the environment issue seriously, think about the current serious pollution issue, modify environmental regulations, increase fund investment for environmental protection and shoulder the responsibility of environmental protection.
