Yu, Hongmei: The cause of the high-speed train rear-ended accident is a systematic problem
俞红梅(Yu,Hongmei)
At 8:30PM, July 23, 2011, a high-speed rear-ended accident occurred in Wenzhou, which caused 40 deaths and hundreds of casualties.
As for the reason that cause the high-speech train rear-ended accident, the Chinese government said it was due to lightening strike and later said it was due to the design defect of the signal device, but never mentioned the serious problems of the management system that relevant dispatchers didn’t send out the warnings.
After the rear-ended accident, the Chinese government has been unresponsive and buried the destroyed carriages in order to cover up the truth. This was very shocking. Nobody understood why it was done except the Chinese government.
The reason of the Wenzhou high-speed train rear-ended accident is ultimately a system problem. The Chinese government and government officials’s power is not supervised and balanced effectively. We hope that the Chinese government can push forward political reforms, and pay attention to people’s lives so that trains will not derail and every Chinese could have a free life and dignity.
