Chen, Hong: Reflections on human rights and freedom after Ai, Weiwei was released
陈鸿(Hong Chen)
It is reported that the artist Ai, Weiwei was released by CCP authority on June 22, 2011. Although CCP released Ai, Weiwei, CCP deprived him of freedom of speech for a year. Since Ai, Weiwei is a world-known artist; CCP government couldn’t resist the pressure of public opinions, and finally released Ai, Weiwei. Although Ai, Weiwei was released, he can’t and doesn’t have any rights. As an artist, Ai, Weiwei revealed CCP’s tyranny via artistic means. Ai, Weiwei’s innocent arrest and release showed that CCP ignored human rights and arrest and release at their will. Chinese citizens don’t have any freedom of speech and any basic human rights.
As the world-known artist, Ai, Weiwei is very influential to contemporary Chinese teenagers. The arrest of Ai, Weiwei woke up Chinese teenagers again and proved again that CCP will persecute those that fight for democracy and freedom.
