Feng, Yaying: Let people have the right of free press and speech

The Chinese government has strictly controlled the freedom of press and speech. Various restrictions make people no access to free press; the government has monopoly of press. Newspaper, radio and television with large-circulation is all controlled by the government. All news reports, including wordings, photos and video recordings, have to be reviewed strictly.
Journalists who don’t obey government’s press restrictions and who openly publish negative news can hardly get away with being punished by the government, and some are even arrested and put in jail. Chinese government’s brutal suppressions have made many media workers confused and don’t know what to do. For years, free speech can’t be published on whether newspaper or the internet and people don’t have the right of free speech.
As of today in China, the economy has developed, and the living standard has improved, however, there is no improvement of freedom of press and speech. There is no sign of government’s loosing restrictions of freedom of press and speech. The government has blocked the news of petitions, human rights movements, group casualty accidents, food safety issues, etc. Chinese people can’t find out the truth about these issues. Therefore, we urge the Chinese government to improve the environment of free press and speech, implement the freedom of press and speech so that people can have the right of free press and free speech.
