Peng, Fuwei: The realization of democracy in China can restrict officials’ corruption
彭福伟(Peng, Fuwei)
Chinese economics was always increasing rapidly in the past thirty years, but officials’ rampant corruption was also harassing China at the same time, putting Chinese economical developing miracle in the risk, therefore, Chinese government is trying its best to contain officials’ corruption. However, Chinese people are questioning and guessing whether Chinese government’s anticorruption succeed or not? There is no doubt that if China endeavors to pursue the respect from international society, it must crack down officials’ corruption thoroughly.
However, it’s very difficult to hit officials’ corruption effectively and there is an obvious reason that a big environment of corruption exists in China, which is one-party autocratic system. In this society, officials’ power is able to avoid even escape from laws’ limitation totally and unrestricted power is the important soil to breed corruption; with the existing of soil for corruption, corruption becomes an unavoidable fact in present Chinese society.
Corrupt style is that power seduces officials to make trade between money and power and all the officials hold some unrestricted power more or less, so corrupt officials must try their best to obtain filthy lucre and shield each other; they may corrupt their superior departments and officials to avoid investigation and punishment.
Chinese government should make use of reasonable social system to hit corruption, and the reasonable system is multi-party democratic political system. Democratic political system can provide an environment that can limit and supervise power, therefore, make chances to restrain officials’ corruption.
