Lu, Jicheng: Chinese Government Must Keep an Eye on the Environment Protection
陆继承(Lu,Jicheng)
In recent years, Chinese government has made some achievements in tackling environment pollution problem, although new ones continue occurring. The emission of CO2 keeps rising. Besides, the waste of gas, liquid and solids produced by industrial enterprises in certain areas are still directly released to natural environment without purifying. Such superficial means of preserving environment, which claims to protect the environment yet in the meanwhile continues to harm it, cannot possibly actualize its original goal of improving and preserving natural environment.
Some officials in Chinese government only pay lip service to such words as environment protection or saving resources and living a low-carbon life, without actual application of thses concepts to actions. The major reason to such is that some government even ignore, i.e. pretend know nothing about, the pernicious pollution some industrial enterprises did to the environment, for the pursuit of GDP growth, economic profits and their political records.
In order to protect the environment, it is required to make more endeavors to help the legislation and implementation of environment-protection related regulations, accelerating the adjustment of industrial structure and promoting such proven effective ways as energy-efficiency, consumption-reduction, pollution-decrease and technology advancement. Meanwhile, government should also empower supervision to commons, social groups and other environment protection organizations.
