Former President of the Czech Republic Vaclav. Havel, who led the Czech to challenge authoritarian rule to realize democracy, , died at age of 76 on December 18,local time, 2011. Havel is a Czech playwright, who served as President of the Czech Republic from 1993 to 2002. We are here today to commemorate Vaclav. Havel, mainly because he organized and initiated the famous "Charter 77" human rights movement.

In January 1977, 241 Czechoslovak intellectuals and people from other walks of life signed and issued a declaration for the protection of fundamental human rights, which is known as "Charter 77." As the "Charter 77" organization’s founder and first spokesman, Vaclav. Havel led the challenge to authoritarian rule of the peoplefor over ten years, until 1989, former Czech government collapsed. Havel was held in prison for 5 years, 3 times in sequence, due to his criticism toward those in power from1970 to 1989. In 1979, he was sentenced to four and a half years in jail charged with the attempt of subversion of state powe. Looking back at the late 80's to early 90's democratization in Eastern Europe, Vaclav. Havel was no doubt a pioneer of democratization in Eastern Europe because of his efforts to start the organization and initiated the "Charter 77" Human Rights Campaign,; also because he led the turbulent transition to a democratic state and free market economy, ending authoritarian rule, hence a shining example of democratic politics. Eternal life to Vaclav. Havel!

In today's world, democracy, as an universal value, has become the benchmark for political civilization. Looking at the wave of democratization in Eastern Europe and the Middle East changes last year, China has gone farther and farther in the road of authoritarian rule. Unfortunately, the Chinese Communist Party, in order to maintain one-party dictatorship, is stepping up to the Democrats of Chinese dissidents and persecuted. Now the scenes what "Charter 77" exposed of the authoritarian rule of the restrictions on human rights, deprivation and persecution are staged in China today. Democrats captured Chinese Qin Yongmin, China sentenced Democrats Liu Xianbin, so that China's current system, as the "Charter 77" said the revelations of authoritarian rule, "itself is often limited or even totally deprived of civil rights as a tool . "To a democratic country, to fully protect the citizens of the freedom of speech, freedom of belief, freedom of association, protection of free and fair, competitive elections. Respect for the individual and inalienable rights of the opposition to ensure free flow of information and the rule of law, the public and the opposition can fully express their criticism of the Government or opposition to, without fear of retaliation by the physical and mental force. In order to implement the basic rights of citizens, there’s only one way out, and that is: the end of the Chinese Communist Party's one-party authoritarian rule, as well as the realization of democratic multiparty political system of constitutional change.
