Sun,Lin: Chinese government must take responsibility for serious environment pollution
孙琳(Sun,Lin)
Since the day when the Chinese government performed economic reform, they have already stepped into a distorted developing route, which emphasizes too much on economic growth and ignores the environmental protection. Once upon a time, people focused fully on economic growth all across China, and put great efforts in the heavy industries and sought high profit. Almost all factories pour untreated waste water to lakes and rivers; untreated exhausts are also released frequently, as well as solid wastes; people constantly exploit minerals and natural resources; cut down trees and destroy wetlands; they also keep on wasting limited land resources. In just a few decades, the environmental pollution in China is deteriorating.
Presently in China, the spread of many diseases and environmental degradation have a direct relationship. One of the adverse consequences of economic development is the damage to environment. Currently, the air quality of many places in China is below the standard; moreover, drinking water has been seriously polluted.
The investment in economic development and in environmental protection should be in sync, otherwise, the environment cannot be fully protected; the main reason of the environmental degradation in China is that the investment in environmental protection lags far behind the investment in economic development.
The worsening environment in China has become a major threat to Chinese people’s health. The Chinese government should think thoroughly about it and review their own problems, improve the environmental protection policies, put more efforts and investment to protect the environment, and therefore contribute to the environmental protection.
