Xing, Jinqiao: Appealing to the Chinese Government for Reforming the Policy of Environmental Preservation

The environment in China is getting worse and worse, which is caused by several reasons. Firstly, there are some problems existing in the policy. In order to promote economy, the government advocates the development of the industries and the pursuit of high gross domestic product, but ignores the work concerning environmental protection. Huge amounts of raw industrial sewage are directly flushed into rivers and lakes, and untreated industrial waste gas is discharged into the air by many factories. You can see many cloud-kissing chimneys in some cities. Smoke and dust that pervading in the air, give off a blast of odor. For lake of complete measures to the disposal of industrial and domestic rubbish, plenty of solid waste is piled up like mountains. Secondly, the area of forests and grasslands in China is on a rapid decrease, and desertification is getting speed up, which lead to the following results: prodigious changes in the climate, drought and flood disasters and other disasters taking place frequently, limited water resource is gradually running out.
Due to the worsening environment, the China region’s living environment is facing a potential threat. As a government, it must realize that environmental deterioration will have a fatal effect on China’s development. However, the Chinese government and officials blindly pursue economic development, lack attention and investment in environmental protection. The common is short of the concept of environmental preservation. Therefore the government’s strength and measures to restrain environmental deterioration are getting weak. We solemnly appeal to the Chinese government for reforming the policy of environmental protection, attaching importance to the jobs concerning environmental preservation, so that we could bring benefits to the descendants.
