Li, Jianhua: The Realization of a Democratic System in China Will Contribute to Anti-corruption
李建华(Li,Jianhua)
Corruption is an issue attracted attention from the Chinese people as well as the international society. Many years ago, the Chinese government carried out economic reform and opening-up policy that has been keeping the speed of China’s economic development up. During the process of economic development, a large number of government officials escape restriction and supervision of the law, involve in power-money deal and corruption. Even though the government introduces a series of anti-corruption policies, the measures does not work. Nowadays, the number of corrupt officials continues to increase, the amount of money involved in corruption cases is also getting larger and larger.
Anti-corruption is now a tough problem for the Chinese government, during the past ten years, on one hand the Chinese government had been “punishing” corruption, but on the other, it had been “indulging” corruption. Where is the root of increasingly severe corruption? The root can be found out from a shortage of political system which is able to inhibit corruption.
Under a democratic system, the government is chosen by the people, and the officials’ powers are restrained by the law and supervised by the people. All officials are equal in front of the law, governments of democratic countries treat corrupt officials without prejudice or partiality. The Chinese government should learn experience from the democratic countries, start from the reformation of social system. Effective anti-corruption needs a democratic and freedom social system.
