Xu, Lijing: The Memory of the 22nd Anniversary of “June Forth Incident”
许立菁(Xu,Lijing)
In the May and June of 1989, in order to demand the Chinese government to punish corrupt officials, thousands of students and citizens carried multi-colored banners and shouted slogans on streets in Beijing, China. Also, they hoped that the government could promote democratic reform in politics. They expressed a wish of the implement of democracy and freedom.
The democratic movement did not stop until the wee hours of the morning of June 4. The Chinese government mobilized troops, sent tanks, and used machine guns to suppress the impressive and influential democratic movement. Many students and citizens fell to the Chinese soldiers’ guns.
We commemorate the “June Forth incident”, and mourn the victims who paid with their lives for ideal, those were national heroes in Chinese history. Although twenty-two years went by, the historic event has become a brilliant chapter in contemporary history of China. The Chinese people have been suffering innumerable defeats for the pursuit of democracy and freedom. We believe that a democratic and freedom China will come in the future.
